Workshop Overview:

This specialized, hands-on workshop is designed to provide practical training in the management of sudden cardiac death (SCD) through detailed heart dissection, followed by the interpretation of the findings. Participants will gain essential skills in conducting thorough cardiac autopsies and understanding the pathophysiological processes involved in sudden death due to cardiac causes. The workshop will include expert-led demonstrations, applied case studies, and interactive discussions focused on differential diagnoses and reporting techniques.

Training Program:

1. Brief Applied Lecture on Heart Dissection
   An introductory session covering the fundamentals of heart dissection, focusing on anatomical landmarks and common pathological features observed in sudden cardiac death cases.
2. Subgrouping and Applied Practice
   a. Detailed Dissection: Step-by-step instruction on how to perform a detailed heart dissection, identifying key structures and anomalies.
   b. Sampling: Best practices for tissue sampling, including areas for histopathological analysis.
   c. Interpretation and Differential Diagnosis: Learn how to interpret findings, differentiate between various causes of sudden death, and correlate pathological findings with clinical history.
3. Applied Demonstration of Hearts with Different Sudden Cardiac Death Cases
   Real-time demonstrations using hearts from cases with different mechanisms of sudden cardiac death, such as arrhythmias, ischemic heart disease, and congenital defects.
4. Reporting of Gross Examination
   Practical training on how to document the findings from the gross examination of the heart. Emphasis on what is important to note in reports and how to correlate these findings with microscopic analysis and clinical evidence.
5. Interactive Discussions:
   Engage in Q&A sessions and case discussions with forensic experts. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions about challenging cases and the interpretation of findings, including controversial or difficult-to-diagnose cases.
